Now this, this is a Wrecker.
Remember how I said Roadbuster looked plain and kinda boring cause he wasn’t completely Mad Max-ed out? Yeah, Topspin does not have that problem.
The Deluxe Topspin as well as Leadfoot from DOTM were both completely loaded out to the max with weapons and Cybetronian details unlike Deluxe Roadbuster. I got Topspin on hand right now so let’s take a look at him!
Vehicle mode

See how much more character Topspin has in comparison to Roadbuster? Roadbuster does look good in car mode but my goodness, I just like looking at Topspin more. There’s so much detail, colours and random stuff that just catches your eye.
For example, even though he’s covered in Mad Max style… Cybertronian stuff, Topspin still has a bunch of sponsorships and livery on him. It’s so stupid that you can’t help but love it.
For playability, Topspin rolls well on all four of his wheels. He also has many MechTech ports so you can arm him up to a ridiculous extent.
Transformation
The transformation here is one of trickier ones to come out from DOTM. It’s smart but a bit of a hassle to get the steps in just the right order.
Robot mode

Topspin looks great in robot mode and has a design that’s just as interesting as his bro Roadbuster. Like his bro Roadbuster, Topspin has a headsculpt that just screams he’s ready to party.
The big thing visually that Topspin has compared to Roadbuster is that he’s more colourful so he pops more on display compared to his fellow Wrecker. The big thing Topspin has functionally over Roadbuster is that his car mode kibble is much less obnoxious.
Topspin has pretty outdated posability if we’re being honest and that’s because he’s sorely missing thigh swivels.
- His head is on a ball-joint.
- His shoulders are ball-jointed.
- He has bicep swivels.
- He has bending elbows.
- His claws can open and close.
- His hips are ball-jointed.
- His knees can bend.
- His feet can move up and down as well as wiggle side to side a bit.
Gimmicks

Topspin is a DOTM Deluxe figure so he comes with the kind of MechTech weapon that can’t lock in place… unless you modify it by taking out its springs.
When it’s in its default form, it’s a cannon that sorta looks like a crossbow if you’re using your imagination. If you pull back the lever on the back, it becomes a grabby claw. A massive grabby claw.
Not the best MechTech weapon but it’s definitely not the worst.
Oh yeah, Topspin also has some really nice blue light piping in his eyes. It’s always cool when you get light piping.
Toy or collectible?
He could be both honestly.
Topspin isn’t too hard to find but he’s more expensive than he used to be. He’s also complex but not complex enough to be frustrating for an older kid.
If you find Topspin loose, he should be about RM60 ($15) at this point. He goes for RM300 ($75) new in box… which I think is a waste if you’re not planning to keep him MISB forever.
Closing
Man, Topspin is so much fun and is so close to being perfect… but not having those extra bits of posability really does bring him down. Adding thigh swivels would have made Topspin an absolute showstopper.
Still, even with a bit of missing posability, Topspin is still a great Transformer that I can wholeheartedly recommend. Especially if you’re a Bayverse fan!
