Oversized Deluxe Class? No, this is a budget Masterpiece.
You guys remember that trend? Upsizing Deluxes and Voyagers so that they would scale with the Masterpiece figures? Why did that go away?
It’s hard to believe now but we were all starved for Arcee figures back in the day… until we suddenly weren’t. And then there were so many to choose from it could make your head spin!
For CHUG scale you had to get the Thrilling 30 Deluxe or one of the early experimental and buggy 3rd party figures. For MP scale, you had to get one of the pricy 3rd party Masterpiece style figures… or this lady.
Wei Jiang released Alcee in back in 2017 as a Masterpiece scale substitute or placeholder. This being Wei Jiang, they upsized Arcee, gave her some die-cast parts and gave her some upgrades. While the upgrades she got weren’t as extensive as some of Wei Jiang’s other releases, they were still very welcome.
As far as I can tell, her thighs are definitely die-cast metal and her feet might be made of metal too. There might be more die-cast parts but if there are then I can’t tell which are made of metal.
The two main upgrades are the headsculpt and the removable backpack. Wei Jiang gave her a new head that was supposed to be an improvement over the original Hasbro one… but opinions are divided on whether they succeeded or not. I hated it at first but it’s grown on me over time.
While Arcee’s backpack actually does fold up quite well, Wei Jiang retooled it so that two huge chunks of it can be removed to make Arcee less kibbly and more easily posed. It’s seriously impressive how much Arcee changes when you take off her backpack kibble.
Overall, I think Arcee is a great figure that’s worth hunting down… but the face really, really takes some getting used to. If you’re a customiser with a steady hand, I strongly suggest you try to give her face a nice once over with better colours.
