He’s lost his horns!
I got my hands on an Armada Megatron for a great price! Unfortunately, he’s missing his horns, his missile and Leader-1. Doesn’t matter much to me because he’s still really fun.
How fun? Read all about it, this quick look is basically just me gushing about how much I love this thing.
Robot mode

Megatron is a hefty one in robot mode. He’s not the tallest but he’s dense and has meat to him. Holding him in hand gives you a bit of a jump-scare if you’ve been constantly handling modern Transformers.
He’s loaded with gimmicks. Like, I need to make a bullet point list to tell you what he can do… so I will!
- His left arm has a built-in knife that you can unlock via Mini-Con port.
- His tank cannon can come out from his side to point forward.
- You can turn the whole tank assembly around for Megatron’s FULL BLAST MODE.
- There’s a crank on Megatron’s side that makes the whole FULL BLAST MODE assembly rotate.
- There’s more gimmicks than that but they’re better used in tank mode.
Megatron’s… somewhat lacking in posability. He’s got no knees which really hampers how many poses you can put him in. Aside from that though, he’s actually got a lot of posability for an Armada figure.
Vehicle mode

Megatron turns into a H-tank and he’s a mean one at that. This thing feels massive and his details make it seem like Megatron is just built for anime violence. I gotta say that with the horns missing, Megatron looks much more like a robot in disguise than he usually does.
There’s a crapload of play value in tank mode. I mentioned gimmicks that were better used in tank mode; here’s the list:
- For starters, the turret rotates a full 360 degrees while the barrel can pivot up and down.
- The main barrel fires a missile when you cock it back… I’m missing the missile.
- There’s another missile launcher that unlocks via Mini-Con port that fires two missiles…you guessed it; I’m missing those as well.
- The right side of the H-tank has a claw that comes out to grab Pokemon/Mini-Cons and a deploying orange ramp for flying Mini-Cons. Or ground vehicle ones if you’re feeling silly.
- The left side has… I wanna say either a cargo bay or Mini-Con seats? Because there’s a prison claw on the right side and having two prison cells is redundant. The front end has three spring-loaded, deploying Mini-Con ports.
Closing
Man, I love this guy. Megatron perfectly represents everything there is to be loved about the Armada toyline. While he’s technically “worse” than the Combiner Wars Leader, I like the original a lot more. Which is saying something because I loved the Combiner Wars Armada Megatron.
You should go out and hunt one of these for yourself. I’m definitely going to get a complete version of Armada Megatron at some point… but then what will I do with this guy?
Hmm…
