Transformers Dark Of The Moon Deluxe Roadbuster Review

He’s just a bit naked.

Like seriously, compared to his massive and jacked Human Alliance counterpart, Deluxe Roadbuster here just seems… bare. He’s not Mad Max-ing in his car mode, he’s just.. a car and a dude.

I really liked the Human Alliance Roadbuster and DOTM Roadbuster’s design in general so I hope the Deluxe Class one is good too!

Vehicle mode

Roadbuster actually does look good in car mode… but he’d look better if he was tricked out with as many weapons as possible like he was in the movie. Still, all the painted decals along with the green and white do look pretty. Also, while unpainted rims usually bug me, they’re accurate on a Nascar car like this.

For playability, Roadbuster rolls nicely on all four of his wheels and has a bunch of MechTech ports around so that you can arm him up. They’re the cool kind of MechTech port that fill themselves up when they’re not in use.

Transformation

Okay, I need to admit that I thought Roadbuster was going to be super easy to transform but he’s actually more involved than you’d think at first glance. The way his chest forms is particularly cool to me.

Robot mode

Roadbuster looks somewhat generic in robot mode but has just enough flair to be distinct. The combo of his hat and sunglasses along with his shoulder-mounted missile pods give him a lot of personality… but the sea of grey plastic on his lower body is just so boring.

A bit more colour separation would have gone a long way here. They probably used all the paint budget for the car mode… which is folded up into a pretty sizeable backpack. It’s big but thankfully doesn’t get in the way too much.

Roadbuster has pretty good posability. It‘s not an exceptional amount but it’s good enough to get some decent posing done.

  • His head is on a ball-joint.
  • His shoulders are on ball-joints.
  • He has bicep swivels.
  • His elbows bend.
  • He has ball-joints at the hips.
  • He has thigh swivels.
  • He can bend at the knees.
  • His feet move forward and back.

Gimmicks

As a DOTM Deluxe, Roadbuster comes with a MechTech weapon and has a bunch of MechTech ports around his person. Roadbuster comes with one of the best MechTech weapons to come out of the DOTM toyline.

It transforms from a gun with a chainsaw kept inside it… into a chainsaw. As you can see, this is probably where the paint budget for Roadbuster’s robot mode went. It was worth it.

Also, seems like chainsaws are Bayverse Roadbuster’s thing. Every figure of his comes with some sort of chainsaw, even the Legends/Legion figure.

Toy or collectible?

Toy.

Roadbuster’s a good Transformer for kids and he’s not stupidly expensive. He’s a pretty straightforward Transformer that’s fun to handle and is still affordable enough.

Roadbuster is still available for decently low prices. Actually, I think this is the cheapest version of DOTM Roadbuster that you can get period. You can get him for like RM50 ($10) used and RM100 ($20) new.

He’s cheaper and easier to get than the Studio Series Roadbuster that was released 10 years later. That’s nuts.

Closing

Roadbuster here is not a bad figure but he’s probably the least interesting of all the DOTM Roadbuster figures out there. I’m glad to have him in my collection and it’s pretty neat to have a stock Nascar Transformer sitting on my shelf.

If he seems interesting to you, go and get him because you probably won’t regret it. Otherwise, there are better figures of this design out there.
