Huh, I almost forgot they made this guy.
Alpha Trion did not have a figure made for the longest time. And when he did get figures made of him, they were all hard to get exclusives.
This here is probably the first ever unique mold ever made for poor old Alpha Trion. Is it any good? Ehhhhhh….
Vehicle mode

Alpha Trion is a hovercraft! Nah, he’s actually a Cybertronian spaceship and he’s a good looking alien spacecraft that’s not just a bundle of exploded robot parts. There’s just enough detail and paint here that I can’t call him under-painted.
There’s only one play feature in this mode… and it is the big gimmick of the toy. Weirdly, there’s no landing gear or wheels on the bottom of the ship which means you can only lay Alpha Trion flat on surfaces.
Transformation
Alpha Trion’s transformation is dead simple and you can probably figure it out just by looking at his pictures. It’s actually pretty fun to do but his front end parts keep falling off and that’s annoying.
Hopefully that’s just a QC problem with my copy though.
Robot mode

Alpha Trion looks pretty good in robot mode… but he’s basically a statue in that can just stand there and look pretty. The painted details are surprisingly abundant in this mode and the detailing while cartoony, is quite nicely done.
Alpha Trion’s posability is very limited:
- His arms move in and out the shoulders but not back or forward.
- He has bending elbows.
- His legs go in and out at the hips but not back or forward.
He really will fit in with your G1 collection with that amount of posability.
Gimmicks
Alpha Trion is one of those Cyberverse figures that’s gimmick only activates in vehicle mode.
When he’s in vehicle mode, pressing the button on the back deploys blast effects. They’re not see-through but they’re painted nicely and the gimmick is fun to activate many times in a row.
I still would have preferred if you could use it in both robot and vehicle mode though… but all the Cyberverse Ultra figures have this problem so I can’t pin it on Alpha Trion alone.
Toy or collectible?
Toy.
Alpha Trion is designed to be a child’s plaything and is exactly that. A chunky, simple and affordable Transformer that a child would have a great time with.
Adult collectors won’t get much out of this guy unless they specifically collect gimmicky Transformers… like me.
He’s still easily available online at a decent price so he has that going for him at least.
Closing
Alpha Trion’s… alright for what he is. The most notable thing about him is that he’s the easiest version of Alpha Trion you can get right now.
If you’re itching for an Alpha Trion figure, go for it. If not, you can safely skip this guy.
