Knockoff KO Undersized Transformers Beast Wars Ultra Optimus Primal Review

Slightly off, slightly confusing monke.

I got this KO Optimus Primal on sale so instead of his usual price of RM30, I got him for about RM15. Now, I thought at first that this was a KO of the Robot Masters Optimus Primal that came out around 2004 or 2005 because they’re about the same size. After doing some research on Google, I figured out that’s not the case.

This Optimus Primal is a downsized and simplified KO of the original Beast Wars Ultra Optimus Primal. You can tell because he still has his transforming “mutant” face. It’s a bit odd that they kept that feature but got rid of almost everything else. There’s no more chest pounding, no more built-in weapons and no more chain for his flail.

Oh yeah, there’s also no more transforming robot mode chest.

Even with all of the simplifications, Optimus Primal is still a fun toy. He’s still got a ton of posability, his transforming face is fun and he’s still got his swords as well as his skull mace. No chain means it’s not a flail anymore.

Oh, he also still turns into a gorilla. And that’s always fun.

The plastic quality on Optimus Primal is pretty decent. It’s not official Transformer level quality but it’s not shampoo bottle plastic quality either. It’s somewhere in the middle like the Taikongzhans Transformers KOs.

The paint is a bit weird. He’s almost exactly the same as the original Optimus Primal but his head is noticeably white instead of the normal blue.

What is this? Ultra Magnus Monke?

Two fun modes, decent QC and good quality plastic make this a solid enough KO for the price I paid. I’m glad to have Optimus Primal.

Now I wonder if there’s a Megatron to match him…

Maybe he’ll be purple but have a shiny silver head?
