Transformers Generations War For Cybertron Siege Voyager Megatron Review

Battle-worn tyrant.

The War For Cybertron: Kingdom line has already begun to be released worldwide as of me writing this. The War For Cybertron series has entered its third phase already and I’m just now getting around to reviewing the Megatron that came out during the first part of it.

Well, whatever. Here’s the review for Siege Voyager Megatron! Better late than never!

Vehicle mode

Megatron turns into a Cybertronian tank but he’s not the oddball of the toyline this time around. Everyone’s a Cybertronian vehicle in Siege! Strangely enough, Megatron is one of the least alien looking vehicles to come out of the Siege line.

The tank mode looks great but the visible feet at the back bother me a bit. That aside, Megatron’s molded and painted nicely. The battle damage paint apps suit Megatron since he’s… Megatron. Dude goes hard.

For playability, the tank turret can rotate a full 360°. Megatron also has tiny wheels underneath his tank treads so he can roll on smooth surfaces. There’s also ports for either weapons or blast effects available for use in vehicle mode.

Transformation

The transformation is well thought out and decently complex. It’s not frustrating at all though and some of the smaller steps are nice touches that add some polish to both modes.

The transformation of the front of his tank mode was particularly interesting to me. The way the front part of the tank transforms so that Megatron doesn’t end up as a H-tank is great.

Robot mode

Yup, this is Megatron. This is G1 Megatron with just a few extra touches of detail. Siege’s aesthetic was Cybertronian experimentation in vehicle mode and G1 perfection in robot mode. Megatron and Optimus encapsulate that design philosophy incredibly well.

Megatron is molded well and has enough colour to not be boring. The Siege line’s battle damage paint apps suit Megatron well. This is especially true because he’s grey and grizzled instead of shiny and silver. Megatron looks like a battle-hardened violence machine… which he is most of the time.

Megatron has a good amount of posability but is noticeably a bit stiffer than some of his other Siege line contemporaries. His head is on a ball-joint. His arms rotate as well as go in and out at the shoulders. He has bicep swivels and bending elbows. He has a waist swivel. His legs rotate as well as go in and out at the hips. He has thigh swivels and bending knees. His feet can pivot as well as move forward and back.

Gimmicks

The Siege line-wide gimmick is their weaponry. Specifically how cross-compatible and how versatile they are.

Megatron being Megatron is packing an impressive arsenal by default. His tank cannon splits and transforms into his signature fusion cannon as well as either an extra cannon or a really nice looking sword. You can use his weapons in a variety of ways… like giving Megatron a massive arm-mounted bayonet, spear thingy like I did above.

Siege’s other schticks are battle damage paint apps and blast effect ports. As mentioned before, the batle damage paint apps suit him and decking him out in or with blast effects is plenty fun.

Toy or collectible?

Collectible… but read on a bit first.

The Siege line that Megatron is part of is a more complex and collector oriented line. Megatron being a very nice G1 update at a relatively reasonable price is great for adult collectors who can’t splurge on Masterpieces or 3rd party figures. Megatron was aimed at adult collectors and hits the mark incredibly well.

The caveat here is that this is the first use of this mold. There are quite a few better painted versions of this mold and a host of weirdass, wild repaints as well. Megatron here is probably the most vanilla use of this mold released.

Whether that’s a good or bad thing will vary from person to person.

Closing

Megatron is a great Transformer and should be the highlight of the Siege line. It’s just that the Siege line was so great that people sorta don’t talk about Megatron all that much. It’s a shame really.

Go and get yourself a version of Siege Megatron! The mold is great and this particular version has that G1 accurate grey that collectors love so much!
