Transformers Prime Cyberverse Commander Bulkhead Review

Compact but bulky boi.

I’ve loved Bulkhead since he was introduced in Animated way back in 2008. However, I never got any of his figures except for that one oversized KO Beast Hunters Bulkhead I had. I’m actually still itching for an Animated Leader Bulkhead and a Prime First Edition Bulkhead…

We took a look at an KO of this mold earlier and I quite enjoyed it. Let’s see if I like the original as much!

Vehicle mode

Bulkhead is basically a Land Cruiser but more heavy duty. And that’s awesome. It’s like a Range Rover and a tank had a baby.

Bulkhead’s vehicle mode is great because there’s no obnoxious gaps or kibble anywhere. Even from the bottom, the only obvious robot parts are the hands. Also, there’s a lot of colour going on here in the form of plastic colours, translucent plastic and ample paint apps.

For playability, Bulkhead rolls well on his four massive wheels. You can also plug in 3mm weapons into his various ports.

Transformation

The transformation here is brilliant but not at all complicated. I really enjoy how the back of the car forms his shoulders and the front of the car turns into his gut.

Robot mode

Bulkhead looks really good and that’s before taking into account how small he is. He’s nicely proportioned and has lots of molded detail that’s picked out by just enough paint. It’s also nice that there’s no vehicle mode kibble that’s too distracting or in the way in robot mode.

Bulkhead has quite a bit of posability. He can turn his head from side to side. His shoulders and elbows are ball-jointed. His legs are ball-jointed at the hips and have bending knees. His feet can move forward.

Gimmicks

Like the other Prime Cyberverse Commanders, Bulkhead has parts of him made of translucent plastic to allow for some really cool looking light piping. It looks like glowing Energon! In Bulkhead’s case, it’s translucent blue like Optimus.

Bulkhead comes with his signature wrecking ball. It’s translucent blue and kind of small. If we’re being honest, I think his weapon is kind of a letdown.

Toy or collectible?

At this point, collectible.

The main cast of Prime in almost every size class have become pretty rare and expensive. That includes Bulkhead. Bulkhead now costs about RM100 ($25) MISB and RM50 ($13) loose.

It’s a bit of a shame to give him to a kid but if you can get him cheap, he’d make a great gift for an older child. He’s fun and simple enough to not be frustrating.

Closing

Bulkhead is another great figure to come out of the Prime Cyberverse line. Like he’s legit an incredible figure for his size. He looks great in both modes, has a fun transformation and is really posable for his size.

The price to get him a little steep but you should get Bulkhead if you have the chance. I’m not kidding, he’s great!
