Quick Look Review: Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Voyager Optimus Prime (2014)

Upsized BEEFCAKE.

I got a rare one in here! I’ve always wanted the Optimus and Predaking from this subline of Prime figures. Towards the end of the Prime toyline, Hasbro released a bunch of upsized Legion and Commander Transformers. Optimus here is one of them and he’s an upsized version of the Beast Hunters Commander Optimus we looked at earlier.

I got Optimus for a very good price because he was missing his sword, missile and shield. Plus there was some damage on his legs. I don’t care about that and neither should you. Time for a quick review!

Robot mode

I said that the Beast Hunters Optimus was great for that size. The fact that they basically upsized it to Leader size and he’s still good proves I’m right. In fact, most of the problems this Optimus has come from the modifications that make him different from the Commander Optimus.

My main gripe with this figure… why is there so much green? And why is it that shade of green? Optimus still looks great even with the odd colour choices though. He looks absolutely titanic in robot mode since he’s both tall and chunky.

Posability is actually pretty good… but his head can’t turn from side to side. Why would you do this Hasbro? Optimus was almost perfect. Aside from that though, Optimus has decent posability since he’s an upsizing of the Commander Optimus who had great posability for his size.

Vehicle mode

The upsizing wasn’t really detrimental to Optimus’s vehicle mode either. However, the visible hands are a bit more noticeable on this big guy than they are on the Commander figure. Optimus did get painted rims along with his upsizing which is always a nice touch.

For playability, Optimus rolls on all six of his colossal wheels. He also has space in his truck bed and 5mm ports so you can load him up with weapons. His spiked cowcatcher thing can also lift up and down.

Closing

Honestly, if they just got the head right, this Optimus would be a strong contender for best cartoon Optimus ever made. Even with his flaws, he’s still the best Beast Hunters Optimus released. I’m super happy to have him.

I recommend you try to get a copy of this Optimus at some point. He’s usually pretty pricey but for the solid chunk of beef you’re getting, he’s worth it.

I do kinda want to track down Optimus’s shield. His sword and missile look dinky so I can’t be bothered with them.
