At long last, it is done.
So we finally got a decently sized Shockwave after all these years. If you ask me, they should have gotten one out during the Classics line back in 2006. But what’s done is done right?
A Leader Class Shockwave is a dream that many thought would never come true and that’s kinda true since Shockwave himself is Voyager sized. He’s a Leader because he comes with a sizable weapons pack. Let’s see if everything here is worth the cost of admission.
Vehicle mode
Shockwave is a Cybertronian spaceship and totally not an upside down laser gun. In all seriousness though, this is Shockwave’s laser gun mode upside down but it also does work as a spaceship.
Super vehicle mode
Okay, now this a much more convincing spaceship. And not just a spaceship either, this is a warship.
Transformation
Fairly straightforward.
Robot mode
Dear Primus, it was worth the wait because Shockwave is beautiful.
Super robot mode
Uh, yeah. This isn’t the worst super mode ever but it’s definitely one of the weirder ones out there. Given that Shockwave is sometimes a mad scientist, it’s fitting enough.
Shockwave doesn’t gain much height in this mode but he gets quite a bit of heft
C.O.M.B.A.T System Weapons
Since this extra set of weapons is what makes Shockwave a Leader Class figure, I decided to give them their own section. Also, because they do much more than you’d think and are very versatile.
Gimmicks
I pretty much covered it above. As a Leader Class Transformer in the Siege line, Shockwave comes with a bunch of extra weapons that can do a bunch of stuff.
Toy or collectible?
Collectible.
Siege stuff is expensive and aimed squarely at collectors. Yes, they’re much cheaper than Masterpiece stuff but for the price of one Siege Shockwave, you could get two Cyberverse Ultra Shockwaves. See the point of Cyberverse yet?
Closing
Yeah, go get Shockwave. The base figure is basically perfect and the extras he comes with are good, dumb fun.
