The battle of the evolutions!

It’s been quite awhile since the last face-off and it’s about time I wrote another. So let’s compare Age Of Extinction Voyager Galvatron and The Last Knight Voyager Megatron!

AOE Galvatron had a pretty underwhelming design if we’re being honest. It wasn’t a bad design but it was way too generic to be the new leader of the Decepticons. It made sense in the movie though; Galvatron was generic because he was supposed to mass-produced and looking plain kinda hid the fact that he still had his old personality intact.

TLK Megatron on the other hand… now this was a redesign done right. A demonic looking knight that turned into a sleek jet with a huge wingspan. Now you know this guy is the big bad just by looking at him.

But that’s all on-screen. How about the figures?

Vehicle mode

Both Galvatron and Megatron have strong vehicle modes but that is about where the similarities end. Galvatron is a (well done) human truck while Megatron is a (well done) Cybertronian jet. Both of these had a lot of effort put into them and they’re both great vehicle modes.

But which is better? Man, that is a hard question.

Galvatron has the better disguise but Megatron has the more intimidating design. Do you prefer robots in disguise or robots that turn into futuristic jets? Which vehicle mode is better among these two depends on your answer.

For me, this is a tie since I can go either way depending on my mood.

Transformation

Off the bat, TLK Megatron has the better transformation. It’s interesting, unique, intuitive and just a good time all round.

AOE Galvatron on the other hand is the king of shellformers. Yes, he’s one of the best shellformers ever made but he’s still basically a robot that’s hiding in a truck mode shell. TLK Megatron on the other hand is a robot that transforms into jet mode.

I hope that makes sense.

Robot mode

Yeah, Megatron wins here. He’s got the more interesting design to begin with plus he’s the better executed toy. Galvatron is a mass production soldier while Galvatron is the absolute king of an army.

Galvatron looks so plain and boring in comparison to Megatron. Also, Megatron has really great vehicle mode kibble integration in robot mode while Galvatron just wears it on his back. To Galvatron’s credit though, look at the comparison pictures; his backpack actually sticks out about as far as Megatron’s, Galvatron’s just covers his back and arms.

On the subject of posability, they’re both great but Galvatron’s knees are so weirdly high up they limit the poses you can put him in. So Megatron wins here. One odd thing these two guys have in common is that they both have feet with ridiculous pivots.

Gimmicks

They’re both light on gimmicks but I actually think Galvatron has a better weapon than Megatron. Megatron has an awesome looking axe sword but Galvatron comes with a nightmarish looking cannon that looks like it merges with his arm when he’s holding it. Also, the cannon has a firing missile and those are always fun, right?

Megatron has light piping though and it’s some of the best light piping ever done on a Transformer. Galvatron on the other hand just flat out doesn’t have any. So Megatron wins that by default.

Closing

The Last Knight Voyager Megatron wins pretty handily! Galvatron is still a fun Transformer but Megatron is quite a bit better than him in many ways. He got quite the upgrade in between movies.

Definitely get TLK Megatron but give AOE Galvatron a shot if you get the chance!
