I can’t believe this isn’t a Generations Selects figure.
Seriously, this feels like something along the lines of that Super Megatron I said I wanted. But nope, Armada Megatron was a mass retail figure.
Most people flocked and got the G1 flavour Combiner Wars Leader Megatron. But let’s be contrarian and look at this guy first!
Vehicle mode

Megatron is a tank just like he was in the original Armada toyline. Well, not exactly…
The big difference with the original is that he’s not a H-tank with his head exposed. What a beautifully painted and molded tank this is! Seriously, I was not expecting this much love and care out of a general retail Leader Transformer.
For playability, Megatron’s turret can swivel 360° and the cannon can fire an orange missile. You can put the extra guns on top of the turret for some extra firepower. Also, he has working rubber tank treads.
Transformation
Just looking at the pictures of the tank and the robot mode you wouldn’t think the transformation would be so simple. But I’m not exaggerating when I say that there are Scout class Transformers with more complex transformations than Megatron.
That said it’s a transformation that’s fun and smooth as butter. I’ve probably transformed Megatron more than any of the other Leader Transformers I’ve gotten so far.
Robot mode

Wow, this is a really well thought out and well executed repaint/remold. Seriously, Armada Megatron and the original Combiner Wars Leader Megatron look very, very distinct from each other. The only difference in molding is Armada Megatron’s new antler crowned head.
One thing that stands out about Megatron is how colourful he is. There’s so much paint here that he really doesn’t feel like a Hasbro figure.
Megatron has a lot more posability than I thought he was gonna have but his arms just look wrong in certain poses. His head can swivel as well as look up and down. His arms rotate as well as go in and out the shoulders. He has bicep swivels, bending elbows and his fists rotate at the wrists. He has a waist swivel. His legs rotate as well as go in and out at the hips. He has thigh swivels, bending knees and his feet can bend forward.
Gimmicks
Megatron’s got a cannon with a firing missile and light piping. That’s what he’s got for gimmicks. Oh yeah, he’s also got that tiny gun that can split into two parts as an extra accessory.
But also, he’s got working rubber tank treads. I dunno if that counts as a gimmick or a neat extra.
Toy or collectible?
Both. This mold and this use of the mold successfully straddles the line between fun kid’s toy and adult collectible.
Megatron is big, menacing and durable. He’s got a simple but fun transformation and he’s got a ton of posability.
Also, Armada Megatron is available pretty cheap nowadays at RM120 ($30) new. For the amount of toy you’re getting, that price is a steal.
Closing
This mold is actually pretty great but the G1 version of it is redundant now with the new scale of the Siege/Earthrise Transformers. Luckily, Armada Megatron is a distinct and fun remold that can stand outside of all that. Or you know, stand beside you’re Siege/Earthrise Megatron as completely separate entity.
Get this guy if you want to experience this mold without getting a redundant G1 style Megatron. Also, get this guy to see how you remold and repaint a figure properly.
