The hobo finally found a home!
We’ve already taken a look at the single pack release of DOTM Cyberverse Megatron and Studio Series DOTM Megatron. Now let’s look at this version of Megatron.
The Cyberverse Megatron that comes with a bunch of weapons and a house.
Vehicle mode

Megatron is a truck, same as the last round except now he has a massive trailer. The truck is painted a bit more sparsely compared to the regular release but it’s made up for by the very impressive looking trailer. For a Legends scaled vehicle mode, I think this is as good as you can get.
For playability, all Megatron can do is separate from his trailer and roll. The trailer cannot pivot. Something that irks me is that the trailer has one pair of fake wheels but that’s not a huge problem.
Transformation
The transformation for the base figure is still the same and it’s still fun. The transformation for the trailer to get to its other modes is simple and intuitive. Cycling between the three modes is a blast and is over in a flash.
Base mode

It’s not really a base, it’s more of an artillery platform. Still, Megatron’s probably just happy to have any place to stay after all he’s been through.
The BLASTWAVE WEAPONS BASE has one double-barrelled main cannon and two rocket launchers on the side. I like to think that red orb on the front is a laser. The main cannon can lower as well as aim up and down while the rocket launchers are on ball joints.
The main cannon can also be removed and has one firing missile.
Robot mode

Megatron’s the same as before but the paint is worse! That’s kind of mean but it’s true. The paint on the face and arms are noticeably less detailed than on the regular release but they don’t look too bad.
Posability is exactly the same as the regular release which means that it’s quite good.
Super robot mode

Megatron turned his artillery platform into a jetpack! Man, I wish DOTM had a fight scene where Megatron with a jetpack fought Optimus with a jetpack. The jetpack itself is basically just the base mode as a backpack but it’s still kinda convincing because of the massive wingspan.
It’s a pleasant surprise that even though he’s carrying everything as a backpack, Megatron still can balance himself very well. The jetpack also doesn’t get in the way of Megatron’s posability.
Gimmicks
His trailer turns into a base and a jetpack. What are you Megatron? Galaxy Convoy?
Megatron has a missile launcher with launching missile and what’s funny about that is that it’s scaled to fit with bigger figures. That means it’s very oversized in the hands of Commander Class Megatron. Not a bad thing mind you, big guns are usually a good thing.
Toy or collectible?
More of a toy than a collectible but I think everyone would enjoy this set. It’s super fun to mess with for kids and the base figure is complex enough to satisfy adult collectors.
Also, this set is reasonably priced used. I got mine for RM50 ($12.50) loose with instructions and collector card. Oddly though, getting him new is super expensive. I’ve seen MISB copies of Megatron sell for RM250 ($62.50).
Closing
While I do think the original release has better paint, I think you should get this guy instead. The trailer is just way more fun than it should be. Of course if you’re rich, you can get the single pack release and give him this guy’s trailer.
That’s a decadent idea.
I really wish Hasbro would make more Legion/Commander Transformers with playsets like this. I think they’d be better for kids than the new Cyberverse stuff they’ve been putting out. Come to think of it, I think most adult collectors would prefer it as well.
But what do I know right?
