Transformers Classics Voyager Jetfire Review

Jetfire’s safe because he’s wearing a helmet.

Of all the things to leave an impression on me, it’s the helmet. It’s huge. Also, it kinda looks like a white Predator helmet.

We already took a look at the CHUG Leader Jetfire. Now let’s take a look at that guy’s predecessor from 2006!

Vehicle mode

Jetfire is a very blocky jet and he kinda reminds me of the Tesla Cybertruck. Jetfire looks like a literal flying brick. The paint and molded detail are nicely done but this jet mode has issues.

For one, his nosecone is too bulky. The other problem is that Jetfire’s arms are just hanging on the sides of the jet. The missile launchers and guns help hide them somewhat but it’s still a problem.

Honestly, the CHUG Leader looks much better than this guy in jet mode. The only thing this guy has that tops the CHUG Leader is that this Jetfire doesn’t have a fake cockpit visible in jet mode.

For playability, Jetfire has rolling three-piece deploying landing gear He also has two firing missing launchers on his sides and two swiveling guns on the sides of his cockpit.

Super vehicle mode

This is when Jetfire means business. He slaps on a massive rocket pack that has huge deploying guns and packs two extra guns on his underside.

The extra firepower and rocket power is appreciated. Jetfire looks awesome in this mode and is a ton of fun to mess around with.

Also, the thrusters on the back of the rocket pack are ball-jointed. Nice touch!

Transformation

The transformation is honestly a lot simpler than I thought it was gonna be. This guy’s actually simpler to transform than the CHUG Leader. It’s still fun though.

Also, he has Automorph in his feet. Before Automorph was a thing!

Robot mode

Now, I’m aware this Jetfire’s not as accurate as the CHUG Leader but he’s got his own charm to him. He’s just so blocky and screams “robot”. Meanwhile, the Leader Jetfire screams “mecha”.

The robot mode is nicely proportioned and well painted. He’s got just the right amount of paint and molded detail to me. Also, he’s got something that tops the CHUG Leader. Voyager Jetfire has no visible hollow parts.

In terms of posability, Jetfire feels a bit dated. His head is ball-jointed. His arms rotate as well as go in and out at the shoulders. He bends at the elbows as well as rotates at the forearms and wrists. His legs go forward and back at the hips. They move in and out from the body as well. He bends the knees and rotates below the knees. His feet can clamp shut. The lack of bicep and thigh swivels seriously hurts Jetfire. The lack of a waist swivel also hurts him.

Super robot mode

The addition of a decently sized handgun and two massive shoulder cannons on top of the helmet makes this mode count as a SUPER ROBOT MODE according to Hasbro.

I agree.

The helmet is way too big for Jetfire but that doesn’t detract from how cool he looks. Well, maybe a little. A nice touch with the helmet is that his antenna can point forward.

Even his Predator helmet has guns.

Gimmicks

Man, Jetfire is just loaded with gimmicks. And guns.

He’s got his built in spring-loaded missile launchers on his forearms. The translucent blue missiles are pretty. He’s also got two black handguns that can combine into a bigger handgun.

Also, his rocket pack. The guns are spring-loaded and deploy forward when the red covers are slid backward. The guns can swivel up and down.

Toy or collectible?

At this point, more toy than collectible.

Jetfire’s a chunky, durable Transformer with two good modes and a bunch of guns. He’s the perfect gift for an older kid. Even though Jetfire’s an older toy, he’s still available at not insane prices. You can get him used with box and instructions for the price of a Siege Voyager.

Adult collectors have probably already replaced this Jetfire in their collection. If not with the CHUG Jetfire than definitely with the Siege Commander. Still, this mold is fun and I’d recommend you give him a shot even if you have those two other Jetfires. Maybe get this guy’s repaint, Treadbolt?

Closing

Yes, Voyager Jetfire is kinda dated but he’s still a good Transformer. He’s fun and his robot mode is still great even if his jet mode is kind of flawed. Also, his rocket pack is better than the CHUG Leader’s.

You should give this mold a chance, even if it’s not as Jetfire.
