The black sheep.
When images first came out of this Optimus way back in 2011, I was upset. They just released the amazing looking Battle Blades Optimus, why are they releasing this mess of a Transformer?
Well, it’s been eight years and the dust has settled. I got this Optimus super cheap since he’s missing his gigantic MechTech gun and his gigantic gas tanks. Is this Optimus as bad as first impressions led me to believe?
Robot mode

Now this was what turned me off from this guy. Optimus isn’t movie accurate. Like at all. Even the first movie Voyager was more screen accurate than this!
Having him in hand though… he still isn’t screen accurate. But he does look good in person. He looks beefy and ready to wrestle! He looks like a reformatted, revamped Bayverse Optimus… before that actually happened.
Another thing I didn’t expect… Optimus is very posable. Seriously, it’s nuts. A waist swivel, ball-jointed wrists, ankles that go everywhere… if he had an ab-crunch he’d have Figma level posability. This guy came out in 2011.
Vehicle mode

Now this truck mode is… not great. Putting aside the solar panels (?) and other modifications, the truck mode is really gappy. It’s very messy. Everything pegs together… it just doesn’t look like it does. It’s not as bad as Universe 2.0 Ironhide but it’s almost there.
For playability, Optimus rolls fine on all six wheels and has a bunch of MechTech ports so you can arm him up. I counted five ports in total.
Closing
With all the ultra screen accurate Optimus figures out now, the DOTM Voyager feels like a breath of fresh air. He’s a unique take in many ways. It’s worth getting this guy just because he’s so out there.
I’ll get a complete version of this mold at some point. The Fireburst Optimus looks mighty fine right now actually…
