Transformers 2010 Hunt For The Decepticons Deluxe Axor Review

He hates doctors apparently.

This guy is a Lockdown fanboy apparently. So he decked himself out to look like him.

That’s dedication. And it’s hilarious.

Axor also got something else from Lockdown. Hatred towards Ratchet. So apparently this guy wants to run off an ambulance.

Wow. Piece of slag much.

Vehicle mode

Axor looks pretty sharp in car mode. Grey suits this car mode less than black but it still looks good. This guy is a HFTD release. Therefore, he has a lot of paint and it looks great.

For playability, you can remove the engine from the hood and leave a hole there. He’s got really bad ground clearance so you have to massage the underside just right to get him to roll. But when you do, he does roll on all four wheels.

Transformation

Axor and by extension Lockdown have a pretty interesting transformation. It’s kind of complex but not too frustrating. What’s neat is that while the transformation is very different from the Animated Lockdown mold, both transformations provide a similar end result.

A freakishly tall robot.

Robot mode

I am always amazed by how tall this mold becomes in robot mode. Axor is towering in robot mode. It’s entertaining to compare newer Deluxe figures heights with this guy’s. Also, it’s kind of sad.

Axor is repaint and remold of Lockdown. That means he’s got a new head and axe weapon. His head looks like a a cross between a ninja mask, an oni mask and a knight helmet. Huh, the silver and blue also feel like a mix between ninja and knight. That had to be intentional.

Axor has a ton of articulation. He’s only missing a waist swivel. His head is… very posable. He’s got a swivel at the base of his neck and two more ball joints in said neck. His arms are ball-jointed at the shoulders and at both elbows. Axor’s normal hand can fold in due to the transformation. His legs rotate at the hips as well as go in and out. He rotates below his first knee. He bends at his two knee joints. Yeah, I count them both as knees. Also, he has what I count as ankle pivots way above his actual feet. Lastly, his toes can point down.

Gimmicks

Axor is a remold of an ROTF figure, so he’s got Mech Alive gimmicks. Turning his lower legs moves the gears inside his thighs. There’s also a piston on his right forearm.

For weaponry, Axor has… an axe. It’s just big enough to be intimidating and is tied to one of the Mech Alive pistons. Moving the axe moves the piston on the forearm. You can put the engine on Axor’s other arm. I’m assuming it’s a blaster like on Animated Lockdown but it doesn’t have flip out cannons. It’s not a great gun honestly.

Forgot about his light piping. It’s very effective. It captures light very easily and lights up his eyes as well as his horns. So sick bro.

Toy or collectible?

I’m gonna say Axor is an adult collectible. He’s quite rare nowadays. I actually can’t quite get a grip on how much he should cost. I saw a few MISB for RM299 ($75) each but I got mine loose and complete for RM50 ($13). He’s a great figure to add to your collection if you’ve got the money or you get a good deal on him.

But giving him to a kid seems kind of wasteful to me. Get the kid a Lockdown! Lockdown is cheaper and easier to get.

Closing

Axor is a nice repaint of Lockdown. But from what I can tell he seems to be much more expensive and rare than his idol. If you want to experience this mold, get Lockdown.

That said, if you can get him at a decent price like I did, you won’t regret it! Even if you do have Lockdown. Axor’s got his own unique flavour to him.

And the fact he’s a Lockdown groupie is amazing.
