Everybody loves Energon Ironhide!

Okay, that was a bare-faced lie.
Everyone hates Ironhide and Energon. But I grew up on Energon and Ironhide was one of the main characters on the show so I had to have a toy of him. In this case, I got a KO from a night market around 2007 or 2008. If I recall correctly, he cost RM30 at the time.

KO Ironhide here has pretty much no simplifications apart from missing the electronics. Maybe he’s based on the Superlink version that didn’t have the electronics? He’s made out of thick, dense plastic that holds up very well. That said, since he’s a KO, his tolerances are whack. I broke this guy’s arm the first time I transformed him because the elbow’s ball-joint was too tight. Some pegs are also too thick to go in all the way.

Here’s a funny story. For the longest time, I was confused as to why Ironhide was so much taller than Scorponok in toy form. It took awhile before I realized the KO makers packaged him with an alternate transformation. They put him with his legs elongated into Powerlinx mode. This puts him at roughly Leader Class height. Those tricky KO makers…

I know Ironhide and Energon in general aren’t that well regarded but I eventually want to get an original Energon/Superlink Ironhide. I won’t throw this guy away anytime soon though. I’ve got a soft spot for him.
