Generation Toy Gravity Builder GT-01G Tyrant (3rd Party Legends Megatron) Review

Small sized, bucket headed Tyrant.

So we got another Legends scale Megatron to look at. I say Legends but I don’t mean Legion size. I mean new Legends scale or Commander size.

Tyrant here was apparently a free gift you got when you purchased the Generation Toy Devastator. He came unassembled and had to be put together like a Gundam. I got mine second hand and preassembled. Let’s dig into Tyrant!

Alternate mode

Megatron is once again a pistol. He’s a little more bare than the MR.DIY Megatron aka Destroyer but he’s got more than the RTS Megatron. He’s only got the the scope. He’s also messier than Destroyer but part of that is me not wanting to force any of the pegs too hard to go all the way in.

Another thing I miss is that Tyrant doesn’t have a trigger you can pull. It’s a nitpick I know, but I did enjoy it on Destroyer. Aside from that though, Tyrant has a great gun mode. Tyrant is also designed to be held by GT Devastator or other figures with big enough hands. It’s unfortunate I have no figure that can do that though.

Transformation

Lord Primus this is frightening. For one the transformation is impressively complex and at this size that’s a cause for concern. Another thing is Tyrant’s a got that model kit feel to him. He doesn’t feel as durable as I’d like him too. Also, the minor partsforming doesn’t bother me.

Take care when transforming him. Tyrant has no stress marks and it might be my imagination but I’m taking no chances.

Robot mode

Tyrant is a very handsome despot indeed. His proportions make look like an athletic bruiser. Like he could clear a football field to get to you then punch you across said football field. Tyrant is mostly dark grey, red and black which is suitably evil looking. I think he looks better than Destroyer by a whole magnitude.

Tyrant and his lack of accessories doesn’t hurt him in robot mode as much as gun mode. He doesn’t have his artillery emplacement but he does have his fusion cannon. Sometimes that’s all that matters. Also, the fusion cannon is just the right kind of big. Not comically oversized but nowhere near dinky. The purple orb thing makes is look like he’s charging it up at all times.

In terms of posability, Tyrant is great! He’s got a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivels and elbow bends. He has ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, bending knees and ball jointed feet. He loses out to Destroyer by not having wrist swivels but more than makes up for it with his ball jointed head.

Toy or collectible?

This is a Transformer made for adult collectors. You should not give this to a child. Don’t give Tyrant to a child.

That said I think even collectors who don’t have an interest in Legends scale will be amazed by Tyrant. He’s got two great modes and a complex transformation that would not be out off place on a figure 3 times this size. He’s price varies wildly and I can’t get a grasp on how much he usually costs but his price when released was $29.99. I got him used for RM25 ($6.25).

Closing

I think Tyrant is better than Destroyer. The gun mode on Destroyer is better than Tyrant for a couple of reasons but the robot mode is just so much better on Tyrant. I highly recommend him even with his durability worries.

Tyrant is liable to be a very costly rabbit hole down into the wonderland that is 3rd party Legends Transformers. Primus have mercy on us all.
