Big Bad Beetleborgs.
I’ll be honest. I don’t really have any attachment to the Insecticons. All I remember about them is that they got run over by Optimus in the G1 movie.
Anyway, I got Bombshell here as a gift. He’s part of the new incarnation of Legends Class Transformers that are basically Scouts. Let’s take a look at him!
Alternate mode

Bombshell is a robotic beetle. All of the robot mode parts are well hidden and there’s no real flaws to point out. The legs can move up and down but the head is stuck in place.
I’m struggling to think of things to say about the beetle mode. That doesn’t mean it’s bad though, the beetle mode is very well done.
Bombshell is a good beetle.
Transformation
The transformation is the best kind of simple. It’s intuitive and both modes end up distinct with minimal steps.
Robot mode

Bombshell is an excellent looking robot mode. He looks like one of those vintage, boxy robots but he’s black and purple so he doesn’t look too friendly. He’s definitely a Decepticon.
Bombshell doesn’t come with any weapons sadly, but his hands have 5mm holes, so you can arm him up as you see fit. Personally, I imagine that the holes in the front of his fists are cannons that fire lasers.
For posability, Bombshell is great except for one thing. He doesn’t have head articulation. At all. No side to side. No up and down. His head is stuck looking forward.
Forever.
Which is a shame, because other than that, Bombshell is just full of posability. His shoulders move in and out, rotate 360°, swivels at the bicep as well as bends at the elbow. He’s got waist rotation. His legs go in and out, swivel at the thigh as well as double bend at the knee.
Seriously, what’s up with the static head?
Toy or collectible?
Oddly enough, I think he’s more of a toy than a collectible. Bombshell’s got two fun modes and a simple transformation. He’s reasonably priced new and he’s even cheaper used. So great as a toy for kids!
For adult collectors, he’s missing head articulation. So that’s a major sticking point. Aside from that though, I think adult collectors will be just fine with him. Also, I think regardless of flaws, collectors will get him just to complete their Insecticon team and their CHUG Decepticons.
Closing
Bombshell is a fun toy and you’re probably gonna need him to round out your CHUG collection. But the static head in robot mode just frustrates me. I like everything about this guy except that.
That one flaw.
That one infuriating flaw.
