Transformers Dark Of The Moon Deluxe Nitro Bumblebee Review

Otherworldly Bumblebee.

The regular Deluxe DOTM Bumblebee was good.
This guy is weird.
But is he also good?
You gonna find out.

Vehicle mode

Camaro.
IN SPACE.
They took a Camaro, covered it in carbon fiber, reinforced the windows (and probably everything) as well as added two rocket boosters at the back of the car.
Forget about realism, this thing is just plain dumb fun just like the Tron Bumblebee.
Everything in vehicle mode tabs in nicely together and he rolls with no problem once you get his undercarriage properly sorted out.
The best thing about him is that even if you plug in all the MechTech weapons you can on him, they don’t look totally out of place.
They just look badass.

Transformation

Really unique. I have handled most of the movie Bee figures and can’t think of any that have a similar transformation. The chest, hood, back and legs all have a unique twist on them compared to the previous Deluxe Bees.

Robot mode

Bumblebee.
ON THE PROTEIN SHAKES AND STEAKS.
Seriously though, he’s more recognisable as Bumblebee in robot mode although his chest is massive in comparison to other Bees. The torso is wider and shorter than usual so his arms and legs also look beefier. The way the backpack and wings condense also make him look more buff.
A neat thing you’ll notice is that the rocket boosters end up at a downward angle at a the back of his calves. It’s as though Nitro Bumblebee could literally flying knee kick you to death.
Posability wise, he’s quite well off with a ball-jointed head, ball-jointed shoulders, bicep swivels, bending elbows, ball-jointed hips, thigh swivels, bending knees and back to front moving feet. However, he’s got the annoying problem of curling arms. His wrists are permanently in one position, so if you bend his elbow, his hand will be in a curling position. Not deal breaking, but still kinda sad. Oh yeah, he also has no waist swivel.

Still not a deal breaker.

Gimmicks

His Mechtech weapon doesn’t feel out of place on him, if only because he’s so sci-fi and weird in the first place.
It’s base mode is is a big single barrel gun that kinda looks like an engine block. Pulling the lever on top transforms it into a longer double barrel gun that still looks like an engine block.
Deluxe class MechTech weapons usually not able to stay in their second mode, but my copies spring has weakened to the point it can stay put in the big gun mode, no problem.

Toy or collectible?

Toy more than collectible. The transformation is not too complex or frustrating. He’s great fun in both modes. He’s also still available at not ridiculous prices. That said Nitro Bumblebee seems to be getting harder to find, so prices may go up soon.
Adult collectors will probably be put off by the fact he’s a Bumblebee. Even if he is a good Deluxe Transformer, collectors would probably be weary of adding another Bumblebee to their collection.

Closing

Is he a good figure? Definitely, apart from that one annoying problem with his posablity.
Do you need him? Probably not. But I think he’s awesome and he definitely has a place in my collection. I strongly suggest you give him a shot.
