Middle of the pack?

What do I say about the first Movie Legends Ratchet mold? It’s good.
This mold is neither the greatest or the worst.
But hey, he’s a Legends class so give him some leeway. Plus he’s got a G1 flavor paintjob so he’s gonna appeal to both young and old fans right?

Vehicle Mode

Wow, no glaring flaws. Being released alongside Movie Legends Jazz and the first Movie Legends Optimus, that alone put Ratchet way, waaaaay ahead of the pack.

The paint is nice. I liked this paint scheme better because it’s the ambulance deco I’m used to. The wheels have ample clearance so he rolls nicely. But get this, his spare wheel can spin too. That’s a neat easter egg.

Transformation

His transformation is the most interesting thing about him. He is simple to transform but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a transformation like this before. Neat.

Robot Mode

This is where he falters a bit. His robot mode looks passably accurate to the movie design. But he just looks kind of melted.

And he has really limited posablity, even for a Legends class. His arms rotate 360° and move in and out a tiny bit. That’s it. That’s almost Spychanger level articulation there.

Toy or collectible?

Toy. He turns into a good looking ambulance and has a fun transformation. Also, because he’s such a brick he’s actually the most durable out of all the Movie Legends figures. You could give him to an older child, no worries whatsoever.

As a collectible, it’s harder to pin down. There’s a better Legends scale Ratchet available from the Dark of The Moon line. But this guy has the G1 deco, so that’s a point in his favour.

Closing

Ratchet is a good Legends figure. You can go ahead and get him if you like Legends figures, he’s a safe bet. But for me, there’s really only a need for one version of this mold in my collection. And I like these colours better.

Note: This guy was released in a two pack with Movie Legends Brawl. But I bought him loose by himself so he doesn’t have his pack-mate. Sad sad.
