Transformers Movie 2007 Legends Jazz Review

Jazz is singing the blues.

What went wrong here? Out of all the Movie 2007 Autobots, Jazz has the most “traditional” Transformers style body. Hood chest, head, two arms and two legs. How could you screw that up?

You gonna find out.

Vehicle Mode

There’s something wrong here, and I want you to take a look and guess what it is. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
….
….
….
If you’re not completely blind, you’ll notice he has a second car hood and grill on his roof. Why? It’s just plain weird, and not in a good way.
Aside from that glaring hiccup, he’s a typical Legends figure in alt mode. Just enough detail so you know what car he is, and four rolling wheels to help him go whoosh.

Transformation

Simple but confusing. Confusing because they took the actual hood and grill of the car mode and turned it into his legs. Confusing because they added a second hood and grill on his car mode roof to accommodate the transformation. Confusing because someone thought it was a good idea.

Robot Mode

Not gonna lie, I actually think that of the original Movie 2007 Legends Autobot lineup, Jazz has the second best robot mode (best being Ironhide). He looks pretty accurate for a Legends class Transformer.

Downside of the robot mode is he’s pretty brickish. He only has up and down articulation at his arms and pretty restricted ball joints at his hips. He has swivels at his knees and goes up at his feet due to transformation, but it’s pretty much useless.

Toy or collectible?

As a toy, honestly he’s okay. He fits the criteria of small, cheap and easy to transform of a Legends class Transformer. His car (except for that one glaring flaw) and robot mode are fun to play with too. Toss it to a five year old kid and the kid’ll have fun.

As a collectible, even now, a decade plus later, this figure is still the butt of jokes due to the second hood chest. Honestly, it makes sense to have him in your collection just because of that. That doesn’t mean that it was a good design choice. It’s just Jazz is cheap, and the faux hood chest is funny.

Closing

Sadly this guy is the only Legends scale Movie Jazz available. But honestly if you leave him in robot mode, he looks just fine. And it’s fun to transform him just because of how absurd that fake chest is.
